Overview

Gabriel is one of the central characters in the JunkRats narrative. A survivor from The Underground and an active Runner, he later becomes a core member of the group known as the JunkRats.

Gabriel participates in expeditions across The Surface, assisting the group with technical knowledge and the operation of equipment recovered from the ruins of the former city while encountering the ongoing threat posed by the Forsaken.

Background

Gabriel lived within The Underground, the crater settlement formed after the devastation of The Collapse and the spread of the Forsaken Virus.

Like other members of the Runner program, Gabriel was assigned to travel to the The Surface to recover materials and technology from the abandoned city above. These missions exposed him to the dangers of the infected world and the deteriorating infrastructure left behind after the collapse of civilization.

Through repeated exposure to damaged systems and abandoned facilities, Gabriel developed familiarity with electronic equipment, sealed infrastructure, and power systems found throughout the ruins.

Story

Gabriel is a major participant in the events of the JunkRats campaign and serves as the primary technical specialist of the group later known as the JunkRats.

Before joining the team, Gabriel operated independently on the surface while scavenging technology and bypassing sealed infrastructure left behind in the ruined city. His technical skills allowed him to manipulate electronic locks, restore power systems, and access locations that many other scavengers could not reach.

Gabriel first encountered Adrian and Lucy during a surface expedition at a sealed maintenance facility. While the pair attempted to access the structure, Gabriel successfully bypassed the electronic lock shortly before a group of Forsaken creatures attacked the entrance. The three survivors retreated inside the facility after the door sealed behind them.

Following the encounter, Adrian invited Gabriel to relocate to a hidden safehouse located in Dead Man’s Land. Gabriel accepted the offer and began maintaining the location’s electrical systems, wiring, and equipment. His technical expertise allowed the group to maintain working power and repair scavenged devices used during surface expeditions.

While operating together, Gabriel worked closely with Adrian and Lucy during supply runs conducted for The Underground. The group later encountered Zariah, a scavenger specializing in weapon construction and modification. With her addition, the four began operating regularly as a team on the surface.

As the group continued operating outside the direct authority of The Underground, their activities eventually attracted the attention of Underground scouts. Gabriel, along with Adrian, Lucy, and Zariah, was arrested and charged with treason for diverting resources and conducting unauthorized operations on the surface.

The four were transported to an abandoned subway platform used for executions. Before the sentence could be carried out, structural damage caused by Forsaken growth destabilizing the surrounding tunnels triggered a collapse that destroyed part of the platform. The collapse killed the execution officer and allowed Adrian to free the others, enabling Gabriel and the rest of the group to escape to the surface.

Personality

Gabriel is known for his direct and often blunt manner of speaking. His communication style can create tension within the group during stressful situations.

Despite this, his technical knowledge and ability to operate damaged systems make him an important contributor during surface expeditions. Gabriel frequently handles electronic equipment, power systems, and sealed infrastructure encountered in the ruins.

Relationships

Gabriel regularly operates alongside several individuals:

Together they form the group later known as the JunkRats. Their relationship develops through repeated expeditions on the surface and their shared conflict with the authority of The Underground.
