Project Overview

JunkRats is a story-driven action shooter set in a ruined world where humanity survives beneath the remains of collapsed cities. The game blends grounded combat, exploration, and environmental storytelling to create a tense experience in a world shaped by the spread of the Forsaken Virus.

The project focuses on delivering a cinematic campaign that explores survival, loyalty, and the consequences of human decisions during a global catastrophe. Rather than relying solely on traditional storytelling methods, JunkRats emphasizes narrative discovery through the environments players explore and the characters they encounter.

Vision

The goal of JunkRats is to create a world that feels believable, dangerous, and lived in. The ruined city above the survivors is not simply a backdrop for combat, but an active part of the narrative. Abandoned infrastructure, collapsed structures, and forgotten facilities all contribute to the story of how the world fell apart.

Players take control of a small group of survivors who eventually become known as the JunkRats, navigating hostile territory while confronting the growing threat posed by the Forsaken.

The game aims to combine the pacing of modern action shooters with the tension and atmosphere often found in survival horror experiences.

Narrative Focus

The JunkRats story centers around a small team of survivors forced to operate outside the control of The Underground. Their journey takes them through dangerous ruins, forgotten research facilities, and unstable areas of the city that have long been abandoned.

Throughout the campaign, players gradually uncover the truth behind the outbreak and the events that shaped the world they now inhabit.

Development Philosophy

The development of JunkRats prioritizes several core principles:

  • Atmospheric storytelling through environments and world design
  • Character-driven narrative focused on a small group of survivors
  • Grounded but fast-paced combat that rewards positioning and awareness
  • Exploration of ruined environments that reveal the history of the collapse

These elements work together to create a world that feels consistent, immersive, and reactive to the player’s actions.
